Be clear in what you want, have desire for it, expect it AND be okay with it not happening the way you want or expect. These statements seem to be in conflict and yet it is important to accept them both in order for your goals to happen.
The Law of Detachment requires you to let go of your goal. Even though you are working towards it and you are committed to making your goal happen, you also need to let go of it needing to happen.
F.Scott Fitzgerald said ” ..the test of a first-rate intelligence is the ability to hold two opposed ideas in the mind at the same time, and still retain the ability to function.”
I think that the essence of this law is the energy you have around your goal. Do you truly believe it is in your future, or are you hoping it will be Do you have the attitude of “I’ll believe it when I see it” or do you have the more empowering one of “I’ll see it when I believe it”?
I have had clients who picture their goal and they visualize it every day and in doing so, have a great wanting for it. It is the “want” that can often push a goal away. Think about it – in saying, “I want this”, it can mean “I don’t have it”.
When you start believing you have it, or that it is on its way then you know it as certain as you know that you have a certain appointment next week, or that the pizza you just ordered is on its way. When you create this knowing and certainty about your goals, you will be amazed at what happens to your life!
The number of times that I realize that I have been holding on to my goal and then I just let go, ideas come flushing into my mind, opportunities start happening and things start flowing again. So be mindful that you need to let go of things needing to happen.
Have you ever heard of women or parents desiring a baby and they just want it so much that it doesn’t matter what they do, they have tried IVF etc. and they are not successful. When they give up, and they simply let go of it needing to happen -and then what happens? They get pregnant naturally.
When you are set on achieving your goal in a particular way, you may be closed off to the opportunities that will help you achieve your goal even more easily. Some people believe they have to do everything themselves, or have to work hard to make it worthwhile. These overlying beliefs shape one’s reality and can block someone from seeing the opportunities that are out there to make their goals come real even more easily.
Review your goals and what it is you truly desire in life and do a quick check – do you believe you can achieve your goals? Are you clear with what you want? Could you aim even higher?
