The Olympics are over and for many; even their sporting careers are finished. For many athletes, the Olympics are a final destination – the end goal, and it’s time to start afresh. Hopefully those who retire have already been thinking about life beyond sport.
For anyone, athletes or not, a big dream cannot be an end in itself. There must be a thought about what that big dream can lead into next. It is also time to dream again.
I have had the pleasure to share my story lately with business people in Maui, and especially the key points that allowed not only me to succeed in going to the Olympics, but also allowed me to reinvent success beyond sport – to realise new dreams and goals. And yes, it starts with a dream.
It’s never too late to dream. When you are young, it’s easy to dream about what your life might be like, but some people as they get older feel resigned to live life as it is. Some people put themselves in a box (see my video talking about fleas to illustrate this) and limit what they can do.
When I think of a “Winner’s Edge” I think of pushing the edge of what is possible; stretching the limits. What if dared to be and do more? Perhaps you have dared to dream and it has gotten you to this point. Is it time to dream again and extend yourself even further?
Just think about it. How are you currently limiting yourself?
At one stage of my life, post-sport, I put myself in the box of needing to work for someone else. I didn’t think I had what it takes to be my own boss and run my own business. And yet, there was a desire in me to do so – to be really in charge of my life and work the way I wanted to.
It took a dream, and it took self-belief. I remember a few exercises that I did that helped me to ‘get it’ – to get that I had what it took to succeed on my own. I use these same exercises with my clients to help them tap into their own self-belief and inner power. It’s not that hard, you just need to know what to do.
So yes, it starts with a dream. And there a lot of dreamers out there, not getting results. There comes a point when you have to stop dreaming, and say “This is happening!” Olympians had a big dream and they didn’t only dream it – they believed in their dream enough to do the hard work to make it happen.
What can you dream of doing next year or in your lifetime? It could be a dream holiday. When I tell people here in the USA that I am from Australia, and they tell me how much they would love to visit Australia, I say to them “Do it!” Set a date, make it happen.
What else do you want to experience in this life? What is your dream career?
If you feel stuck in your current position or business, and want some help to dream again and turn those dreams into reality, then we need to talk. I still have places available this month for complimentary Winner’s Edge Discovery Sessions to talk about your dreams and plans to make it happen. Read More
