How Well do You Know Yourself?

As I was driving to an appointment with The Symbolist the other day, I thought how funny it is that we like to hear from others about who we really are.

Funny because when we get the information, the personal response is always one of – yeah, yeah – “that’s exactly me”, “you are so right!” – or something similar.

Do you know what I’m talking about?

Either we just don’t take the time to look deep enough OR it’s kind of comforting to get that confirmation from an outside source – or most likely both.

Soul Print

So I met with The Symbolist, aka Tania Von Allmen, who comes up with a symbol, or Soul Print, that represents your core essence.  She gets this from just knowing your name and birthdate and then drawing up on her intuition.

I love what she came up with for me – the sunflower, which happens to be one of my two favorite flowers (along with tulips) and is similar to one of my favorite paintings – Van Gogh’s sunflowers.

The description that came with the flower was so accurate. I won’t describe it today here, because I have several friends, family and colleagues going through a branding process with me, where they also get to give their opinion of me too, and I don’t want to influence them.

I came across another profiling tool that I did a year ago, and that was based on more information (a questionnaire), and yet it was scary how similar it was to Tania’s intuitive interpretation.

There are a number of profiling tools out there, including DISC, which I occasionally use for my clients, and I highly recommend them for people to get in touch with their deeper core self.

You have so many experiences and influences in your life, it can be easy to go off track from your core essence.  You may also hear this termed as your ‘genius’ or your ‘giftedness’.

A well-meaning friend or family member may have suggested you follow a certain career; another opportunity might attract you because of the money you could make; or you have so many talents that it’s hard to focus on just one.

You follow your head, rather than your heart!

Even as a coach, I might make suggestions to my clients, but my best advice is usually wrapped up in a question – where I get the answer from you.  You know what’s best for you.  You have the answers within.

A profile, or branding process can help you get back on track with who you are and who you want to be.  It can help you get in touch with the people you were meant to speak to, to lead and to serve.

I’m doing it so that I can really hone in on my core message to share with you – I don’t think it will be vastly different, but it will be more refined and tuned in to those who need me most.
